Lightweight, pocket-sized, and highly functional, the RFID2NFC converter is designed to break down the barriers that have long prevented smartphones from reading UHF RFID tags.

These unique automatic identification solutions, widely used across logistics from warehouses to retail, have until now required dedicated, expensive readers—making them inaccessible to end consumers.

“In the world of luxury and fashion, fighting counterfeiting is an ongoing challenge,” says Ubaldo Montanari, CEO of Tenenga. “Authenticating products is not just a necessity for brands, but a real value for consumers and market inspectors.

Current RFID technologies, designed for large-scale logistics, face economic and technical barriers that hinder widespread consumer adoption. One of the main obstacles has always been the cost of UHF RFID readers, which can range from €400 to €500—an unsustainable figure for most consumers.”

A Cost-Effective, Consumer-Friendly RFID UHF Solution

Tenenga’s partner, Tertium Technologies, has developed an innovative passive RFID badge—the RFID2NFC converter—that requires no dedicated software. As small as a credit card, lightweight, and induction-powered, this device features LED indicators to guide the user through the authentication process:

  • 🔵 Blue LED: optimal position for NFC reading
  • 🔴 Red LED: proper power from the smartphone
  • 🟡 Yellow LED: polling (RFID tag scanning) in progress
  • ✅ After the RFID UHF tag is read, the converter redirects the user to a dedicated landing page showing product-specific information

No app or special terminal is required—just an NFC-enabled Android smartphone. This not only enhances consumer trust but also supports discreet and efficient product verification by inspectors in the field.

Future of End-to-End Security and Traceability

Currently priced at around €150, the converter’s cost could drop to €30–€50 with mass production, paving the way for mainstream use in the fashion and luxury industry.

“Some brands already use both NFC and UHF RFID tags—one for customer service, one for logistics,” explains Montanari. “But dual-technology tags are still expensive and limited in supply. Tertium’s innovation opens the door to quick, affordable, and reliable solutions. Now, thanks to our RFID2NFC converter, users can read UHF tags directly with a smartphone and instantly access authentication data.”

Fashion brands can also enrich the customer journey with additional content such as:

  • Styling suggestions
  • Garment care instructions
  • Fabric composition
  • Store location and purchase history

Similarly, Food & Beverage, Design, and Consumer Electronics sectors can provide consumers with real-time usage, maintenance, and authenticity data through secure RFID tagging.
